Pine, and in particular maritime pine, is a complicated raw material to make money with. By using scanners and optimization software, sawmills have been able to improve drastically their productivity and their recovery factor.
Consequently, it has appeared that using true shape scanning technologies could be the next step in modernizing the primary breakdown. The idea being not only to really take into account the true shape of the log but also to predetermine its internal grade distribution.
CIRIS Engineering has conducted both the phase of process simulation and the subsequent implementation in the mill.
