For the thirtieth anniversary of Ciris Engineering, 2009 has been an interesting year to develop commercial activities on new territories and investment on R&D studies to create the technologies for future markets.
New territories? Two actions have been launched: Russia with our participation in WOODEX fair in Moscow and China with the creation on an antenna in Chine with Edit.
In both cases cooperation agreement have been contracted with local companies.
Regarding R&D, Ciris Engineering entered the scope of logyard traceability for bringing to the sawmills a management tool which will be more accurate and in real time to control raw material consumption.
Ciris Engineering thanks all its partners on these topics and especially FCBA which has been very active promoting all these innovating ideas.

First project: OSCAR: Reinforcing and consolidating…
Oscar is easily fitted or retrofitted onto log carriages and guarantees a better performance on productivity and raw material recovery.
2009 has seen a break of the national sales and in return an important investment on new GPAO modules development and on production management so as to make the work easier for sawmills cutting logs “on-order”. Several installations like Bourdaud, Tecsabois, Cheveaux, Mougin, Glé, Scierie Année, Scierie de Mervent and Gascogne Wood Products… and others have bought OSCAR
Starts-up have been done successfully confirming every time the expected results of this optimization systems.
OSCAR confirms its evolution: output optimisation, control and supervision of raw material purchase, personnel training and promotion, detailed production and control management…
2009 has seen an important investment on R&D answering customers requests. OSCAR has taken the lead in optimizing hardwoods and softwoods sawmills. OSCAR confirms again that it is the European leader in carriage optimizers.

Second project: 2009 export to new territories: Russia and China
Outbreak of relationship with China and signing of a cooperation agreement with CEC which is the most important Chinese company in our field in Peking.
We have founded in China, with our sister company EDIT,  a representative agency managed by a Chinese engineer from the "Ecole Supérieure du Bois".
Outbreak of Russian market in cooperation with Faeton, a Russian company established in St Petersburg, Krasnodar and Moscow. Very positive participation in Moscow fair on December 2009.
These two territories whose growth is still positive, are considered as  hopes for our export development as much as dollar zone remains impacted by the US currency weakness.

Third project: the development of our activities in New Zealand and Australia
These two territories have seen a new start on their industrial growth. We have restructured our commercial area: we have changed of our agent on-site, we have taken agreements with Integrated, a company known for a long time since that we have realised several installations together.
We have exhibited at Rotorua fair (New Zealand) and in Melbourne (Australia). At the same time we have presented OSCAR during two international conferences in the same towns.

Fourth project: The traceability on Indisputable Key
For three years Ciris Engineering is involved in the European Kraft project IK whose aim is to create a technology allowing to trace the logs and to connect woodworking companies with database easily reached by everybody.
Ciris is a subcontractor of FCBA on this topic.
Last November the demonstration site of SMURFIT Labouheyre has been equiped, it's a maritime pine veneer plant, and one working day has been successfully realised.
The question was to blaze the incoming logs and then to read this mark again on the infeed of the veneer lathe, in order to connect purchases and production and to compare resulting ratios by lots and origins.

Fifth project: luminescent nano particles… for a better traceability. LNPKey!
In collaboration with FCBA, Ciris Engineering has supervised a R&D work on nano particles use so as to mark logs and to facilitate control operations. An all-important file, supported by "Conseil Régional d'Aquitaine" and "OSEO" has been presented to regional authorities.
We attach a great importance to this new R&D project which must bring, according to the study market realised, a new raw material optimisation "product" at Ciris Engineering range.

Sixth project: After obtaining the contract for rebuilding the two quality optimised edging lines at Gascogne Wood Products mill in St-Symphorien Ciris Engineering realises start-up and reception exactly in terms and technical conditions scheduled: a success
In collaboration with LICO, machines constructor in Quebec, Ciris Engineering has renovated equipment which can be and has rebuilt the edgers with new technology.  Faster edging speed, more accuracy in analysing shape and wood quality, more reliability of mechanic due to absence of shocks when centering boards. Undoubtedly a reference for all woodworking industry in France.

Seventh project: simulation softwares
Ciris Engineering continues the sales development of softwares especially those dedicated to production control and follow-up on log carriages.
These softwares  intend to draw either near those joined at Oscar or those dedicated to the production programming with Delta.

Eighth project: participation to the training of the young generations
Jean-Pierre Olgiati has been invited again to give a class on “Modern Sawmilling Process Optimisation Technologies” The reflexion regarding the question of Production Management in sawmill is gaining ground and more and more companies entrust us with their GPAO project.
Ciris Engineering remains a privileged interlocutor regarding this type of questions, which associate organisation, transformation processes, technologies and company economy.

Ninth Project: participation to the development of the sister companies
Ciris Engineering has actively participated in developing its sister companies Edit and Miris. The relationship with their managers has been positive and rewarding.
Edit has continued its growth in the field of industrial sensors based on new technologies creating a sales agency in China.
Miris carries on its work in the maintenance and erection for wood industries.
